Funny Friday

OK.... this is a little bad and don't allow children to watch this, but it is Count Dracula, and sadly, I did think it was funny.

Bloody Good Book Review

I had the pleasure of reading Bloody Good by Georgia Evans this week. While I was initially put off by the thought of blood-sucking Nazis (literally - vampire Nazis) I quickly got over it and found myself engrossed.

From the back cover:
While the sounds of battle echo through the sky, a lady doctor has more than enough trouble to keep her busy even in a sleepy hamlet outside London. But the threat is nearer home than Alice knows.

German agents have infiltrated her beloved countryside - Nazis who can fly, read minds, and live forever. They're not just fascists. They're vampires. Alice has no time for fantasy, but when the corpses start appearing sucked dry, she'll have to accept help where she can get it. If that includes a lowly Conscientious Objector who says he's no coward though he refuses to fight, and her very own grandmother, a sane, sensible woman who insists that she's a Devonshire Pixie, so be it.

Indeed, whatever it takes to defend home and country from an evil both ancient and terrifyingly modern...

I found this paranormal fiction to be fun and entertaining; my husband couldn't believe that I wanted to read a book about vampire Nazis. Do not let this turn you away from reading BG. There is a war going on and both sides are willing to use whatever means necessary to win - even if that means utilizing "Other" creatures to their advantage.

I thought that Alice was a very likeable character - she is a smart, science-based woman who lives with her grandmother. She is sweet, caring, and quite capable of taking care of herself; which I prefer to the "can't eat, breath, or live without you" type of gal. The story setting was quite different then what I am use to as well. I can't remember the last book I read that wasn't set in present-day time.

Even though the relationship between Alice and the infamous CO isn't very unique, I found it fun and sweet and sometimes a little steamy... I giggled like a little school girl on several occasions.
I did not like the ending however. Yes, this is book one of three but it ended so abruptly it kind of ticked me off. That's how they get you waiting for the next book I suppose.

Bloody Good comes out June 2nd, followed by Bloody Awful - July 7th, and Bloody Right -August 4th.

Breaking Up with a Book Series

Smart Bitches Trashy Books wrote a great post that has some great comments about when/why you break up with a series, or why you don't.

Whose series were most noted?
J.R. Ward
Sherrilyn Kenyon
Laurell K Hamilton
Christine Feehan
Charlaine Harris
Janet Evanovich
Mary Janice Davis

Obviously it's no suprise that a ton of people have broke up with Anita Blake... which got me thinking... I don't think I ever really break up with these series, I am just not as urgent to read them. I know the Blake books have become trash, yet I can't help to read them. I think I am actually kind of looking forward to the next book coming out even though I feel bad for wanting to read it. I still have hopes it might get better. I won't buy it the day it comes out - I may just wait until my library gets it.

I won't name the unlisted series, but when my favorite character got killed off, I am having a hard time wanting to read the new books. I went to Barnes & Noble yesterday to buy it, even though it had been out since February and decided not to when I found out I would have to pay over 27 dollars for it - it just wasn't worth it.

Some people are getting to the point of wanting to quit Sookie, but I have found that I still very much enjoy them (and Eric of course) so next may I will be in line the day it comes out at the time the store opens. Now if they killed of Eric, I probably wouldn't be that interested in reading about Sookie, and I would be quite angry. I would probably eventually buy the book afterwards (if ever that did occur which I pray it won't).

I also found that the Tanya Huff series ended a book later than it should have. SPOILER ALERT - it just wasn't worth reading after she was turned. Sometimes books are hard to continue reading when you read 5 that focus around a chase and book 6 the get what they were looking for - well book 7 gets a bit boring.

What makes you break up with a book or lose interest?

DEAD AND GONE!!!

So I finally got the book! In less than 2.5 hours I was happy but sad that I was done and have year to wait for the next one! I think Charlaine Harris' latest Southern Vampire Book - Dead and Gone may be my favorite yet.

There are quite a few bad reviews of the book though - they say Harris rushed to much through the plot and didn't really linger on things that should be given more attention... this might be true but that's the kind of reader I am so I didn't mind. This book was a lot less "what the heck is going on" than the previous book though.

Loved the book though! Still completely Team Eric! No offense to Bill Lovers - but Sookie needs to get over him and vice-versa, haha.

OHHHH Yeah - and if you haven't seen them, here are the trailor/sneak peak to the next season of True Blood:
The Sneak Peak... which I am already a bit pissed off about - I will let you be the judge of that though:

Air date is June 14th.... but of course the books are a million times better.

Don't You Hate It When Life Gets in the Way?

I hang my head in shame thinking of how much I have abandoned this blog as of late.
I also have to wait until Friday or Saturday to Dead and Gone .... which I am quite sad about.
I didn't think being married would take up so much of my time; foolish I know.
I do have some treats coming up though!
Stay tuned for a chance to win some True Blood jewelry that I am in the process of finishing.
Are you team Bill or Eric?
And.... to leave you with something that disturbed and confused me (from Flickr Lurkr)
